Carnival Cruise Lines, Fun for Families Too!

When I am discussing Carnival Cruise Lines to clients looking for a family cruise, they  often express their lack of interest in Carnival Cruise Lines. In the past, Carnival with it’s “Funship” tag line has had it’s share of the spring break and college party  crowd. I am here to let you know, the Carnival Cruise Lines  of today is a good family fit!

 

Cutting Back on underage partygoers

Carnival Cruise lines has a very strict policy to curb underage drinking, out of control guests, and other unacceptable behaviors. They do this by imposing an age policy. The policy states that “Carnival shall refuse boarding to any Guest under the  age of twenty-one unless: (1) the Guest is traveling in the same stateroom with  an individual twenty-five years or older; (2) traveling in the same stateroom  with their spouse; or (3) traveling with a parent or guardian in an  accompanying stateroom. Proof of age and/or proof of marriage are required.  Carnival shall not be liable to make any refunds or for any damages with respect  to any Guest’s failure to provide proper proof of age or marriage or otherwise  comply with this provision.” In my dealings with Carnival, I can say this policy is not negotiable.

Improved quality of Food and Dining

Over the past 5 years, I have seen a remarkable improvement in the quality of the food in the dining rooms and on deck. I judge the quality dining on two dishes, Salmon and Prime Rib.  If these two dishes are adequately prepared, i.e. the salmon is fresh, not strong or fishy, and the prime rib is tender, moist, and cooked to the proper temperature; then my expectations have been met. Carnival’s culinary department, in my opinion has delivered on both of these dishes consistently. I would compare the food in the dining room to most high end steakhouses I have had the opportunity to dine at in Orlando. The food on deck is hot, the areas around the buffet are clean, and there is plenty of selection t0 choose from. Keep in mind, it is buffet food so you cannot expect 5 star quality.

Accomodations

The accomodations on the ships are very comfortable. I have always been impressed with how hard the stateroom attendants work, and the appointed ammenities in the staterooms. The added touches of the duvet covers and real mattresses (not 2 cots put together) are very comfortable.  In addition, it is nice to have the soaps and lotions supplied for you! The addition of Carnival Cruise Lines new smoking policy will help keep staterooms smelling fresh and clean for much longer.  Also, don’t forget that Carnival Cruise Lines newer class of ships have cabins that can accomodate up to 5 passengers!

Family Activities

Carnival Cruise Lines has excellent family activities. Their kids and teen programs are well staffed and have many different fun activities for the kids to participate in.  Rest assured, your kids will not get bored while on a Carnival Cruise! The programs on Carnival Cruise lines are as good if not better than any of the major cruise lines, and I am sure the kids will agree too!

Value

Carnival Cruise Lines provides an excellent value for your family vacation. Their pricing is very competitive, and if you can plan well enough in advance you can take advantage of their early saver program which will save you a considerable amount of money. Many sailings also offer military discounts and resident rates. Be sure to mention if you are active or retired military, as this can save you hundreds!

Overall, I will say that Carnival Cruise Lines is an excellent choice for families! The price is right, the food is good, and they have excellent programs for the kids! When you are considering your next cruise vacation, don’t count Carnival Cruise Lines out of your decision. Give them another chance, you won’t be disappointed!
